The Standard Poodle

 The Standard Poodle is an athlete, a showman, a retriever, a protector and a guide dog as well as a  beautiful, loyal and loving companion. 

My obsession with Standard Poodles started in 2004 when I was about to become a grandmother.  As my daughter and her husband both suffer from severe allergies, I was afraid that my 30 year  love  affair with Cocker Spaniels would present a problem.  So when looking for a  companion for my remaining 12 year old blind  Cocker, I looked to Poodles because of their  reputation for causing fewer allergies. 

Having found a Poodle and thinking my showing days were long since past,  my husband and I were encouraged by Marlene Carter (Somanic)  and Sue Eld-Weaver (Zenzaris) to show our beautiful Georgie.  With a great deal of help and encouragement from Marlene and Sue we are now well-hooked and Georgie has exceeded our wildest dreams within the show circuit.  Gaining a “Very Highly Commended (VHC)” at “Crufts” has been the highlight so far. 

Whilst winning championships is important to us, out priority lies not only in Georgie’s temperament and health, but also in having fun with her.  She is well socialised with adults, children and canines.  The two of us also enjoy taking part in Open as well as Companion Obedience and Agility shows – where we have been well placed.  We also enjoy Cani Cross. 

Georgie has also obtained the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme Gold Award.
